Roaming naturalist, champion of conservation and preservation, self-taught botanist, prolific author, founder of the largest grassroots environmental organization in the United States, and grower of epic beards, John Muir was a man to be admired. His essays and literature convey a profound understanding and appreciation for the natural world, and he maintained a lifelong dedication to all-things-ecological. In so many ways, we could all stand to be more like Muir.
